Day 13 - US Open

It's Labor Day weekend in the US, which means early finish Friday :D

To take me into my first Labor Day weekend, I started off with a bit of tennis. The US Open to be precise. Wasn't too sure on the draws until I arrived, just knew it was the third round. Luck have it though, that I got to see Andy Roddick on his home soil and the women's numero uno, Victoria Azarenka! Awesome evening and I got a souvenir cup that has a hologram on the outside of NYC! I know who the winner really was today...

Day 12 - And breath...

Tonight is the first night where I have had nothing officially planned. So just decided to catch up on something I have been neglecting. SLEEP! I am pooped! Need to get myself prepped for Labor Day wknd anyway! Super Psyched!

Day 11 - Cake. Cake. And MORE Cake

Just a standard meeting today with standard US meeting catering. I think if you put diet coke on the table it justifies having enormous slices of cake! I. Like. This.

Day 10 - Rathbones

Went for my first Rathbones experience tonight! This is a restaurant/bar that's famous with interns that live on the UES.

Every Wednesday from 7pm they sell chicken wings for 35 cents per wing! So I had 20. Mixture of Buffalo and BBQ to be precise. However, with practice I think I can get to the 30-35 mark! I was going to take a picture of the remains but they don't look so good in their simple bone form!

Day 9 - Great way to start the day

Three days a week I have to cross the water into New Jersey. Although it is a bit of a trek, I really don't care! I go past some of the most amazing views NY has to offer; Grand Central and Times Square to name a few. However the one that tops them all is the last one while I am on the ferry to NJ harbour. Check this out...

Day 8 - Moving Day

Moved into my new flat today on the Upper East Side, which took up pretty much most of the day. We celebrated moving in by having pizzas on the roof top!

Day 7 - Brooklyn, A Dog & Two Parks

Today has involved aLAT of walking! I ventured out to Brooklyn to watch the fuzzball at 'The Woodwork'. The owner is soccer crazy and has a ridiculous knowledge of the BPL. Then I passed a pigskin around Prospect Park. Grass stained my chinos. Negative craic!

Caught the subway across to Central Park for the greener side of NY. I can't wait to live next to that! Began my stroll with frozen yoghurt from Pink Berry. Those of you who have been to Snog in Covent Garden and understand the obsession I have with it, will get how important of a find this is for me. Pink Berry will fill this void!

Walking out of the park I met a dog who skateboards. His name is Tug and he has business cards. So cool!

Finished the day off with a view down third avenue and a beer. Cheers!

I have gone a bit picture crazy today to make up for my poor subway picture from last night.

Day 6 - Lone Ranger

Today was the first day with no previous intern in my role guiding me through. Scary. In a few bullet points this is how I coped;

- Arrived early (keen!)
- Cleaned my desk down (it had, previous owner fake tan issues).
- Had a banana.
- Did some work.
- Got lost.
- Asked for help.
- Got lost again (it's a big building!)
- Found my desk.
- Did some more work.
- Spoke about Cadburys versus Hershey's.
- Worked a lot more again.
- Finished.

I learnt a new phrase today which is cringey at first but after you have had it said to you a few times it puts a great big smile on your face. You ready for it... "Happy Friday!"

Your colleagues come bouncing into the office and present you with this delightful greeting! I LAV it!

Unfortunately no great pictures today so you are going to have to cope with a picture of economy class on the subway ;)

Day 5 - Upper East Side a.k.a My new home

Checked out my new flat tonight. It's near central park on the Upper East Side. It'll do I s'pose ;)

Day 4 - First day & Grand Central

First day at work today! Not a scooby as what to expect. I am well and truly doing a Tom Daley... Diving in at the deep end!

After being picked up at the hotel by the previous intern we caught the subway to Grand Central Station. Although it was only a fleeting visit, I couldn't help but walk through the whole concourse with my mouth wide open and my eyes sparkling! It feels as if you are walking through a museum and everyone has forgot to read the 'Be Quiet' signs. I am going to enjoy that part of my commute I think!

Day 3 - Shake Shack & The Crazies

Last day of orientation today! Found out that I am going to be living near central park on the upper east side! Winner! Also I went to Shake Shack next to the flat iron building in Madison Square Park. It's offish. They do the best hot dog and milk shake I have ever had... so far!

After orientation had finished my current roomie and I went for a wander to Soho. We stumbled across Union Square! This place was thriving and had almost a carnival atmosphere! There was a small camp of 'Occupy Union Square' peeps who were super friendly and then there were the others! I asked someone what was going on and he said, in his own words "this is where all the crazies are at man!". Maybe a harsh statement you say? I thought so until I witnessed a man who was higher than the empire state dancing with bra's on his head!

I heart NY!

Day 2 - Orientation & A VERY busy park

After the lengthy briefings from today, I felt that the perfect way to end my day would be by watching a free movie in Bryant Park (Indiana Jones to be precise). However, I got there an hour early instead of the recommended 3! It was crazy busy. This subsequently resulting in a rethink of my evenings activities. So I chose a self guided tour of Times square and a quaint japanese restaurant for a $9 big bowl!

I wonder what's next?

Day 1 - Time to fly.

Fly day has arrived! I'm currently sat in Heathrow waiting for my gate to open and the adventure to start... Dum-Dum-Duhhh (enter dramatic goodbye music)!

Thank you to everyone that has made this day possible! Much love :)
