Day 43 - Egg Shaped Balls, Parmesan and Olives.

I ventured over to New Jersey today, to have a session with the team that I will be playing with in November. It was so good to be playing again and has made me contemplate playing out here. I am sure I have a spare hour or two where I can fit that in. Hmmm...

Afterwards I went to my beloved supermarket (Fairways) and did the Sunday night big shop. The pictures I am about to post will probably only be appreciated by my Brother and Sister. Everyone else, I understand if you think that I am weird for taking pictures of cheese and olives!

 Enough Olives for you H?

More parmesan than you could ever want Jack!

Day 42 - Bow Wow @ Brooklyn Bridge

Being a hardened student, you become very versatile at keeping your ear to the ground for free events. This has to have been one of the best that I have been to. There was an unlimited amount of FREE Bud Light & Lime, FREE pizza AND a performance by the boy turned older boy... BOW WOW!

Brooklyn Bridge and an angry looking New York skyline. I think it is angry because it's cross summer is ending (has ended).

It's simple. It's cheap. It's crazy competitive. It's cup flip!

Day 41 - T.G.I.F

Pizza. At work. Enough said.

The scramble
Clearly I didn't like mine...

Day 40 - "Gonna get my geek on"

What I am about to tell you is a serious YOLO moment. I am only here for a year and I thought what the hell, I might as well mix with all types of people. Including Chewbacca impressionists...

If you haven't guessed it already I have bought tickets for ComicCon 2012. Feel the force!

Day 39 - Miniatures

I thought I would mix it up after leaving work today and go home a different way! Daring I know.

On the way back up Lexington Avenue, I walked passed a pet shop enclosing the cutest puppies I have ever seen (apart from Jasper and Dunk, back home of course). It was bitter sweet though, as I felt so sorry that they were cooped up in their pens. So, I thought what the hell and bought the entire litter for a mere $500,000...

Naat! If I had the money, it would have been hard to resist when they are as good looking as this bad lad...

Day 38 - Cloud Speak

I witnessed a new form of communication today. Cloud Speak.

A plane propels through the sky, emitting little puffs of white smoke, resembling words. The planes backside acts as a dot matrix printer, producing artificial clouds in a perfectly blue sky.

Unfortunately when I took the picture, I was too late getting my camera out to see the text in its true form. I am eager to see your suggestions on what you think it says though...

Day 37 - CrossFit Harlem

I've come to the conclusion that I need an outlet. Some place that I can let of some steam after work and Uni.

Enter CrossFit Harlem!

After a recommendation from a colleague I ventured way, way uptown, into deep Harlem and worked out harder than I have done in a long time!

When you walk into the 'cage' at CrossFit Harlem, you are there to graft! No water breaks. No quitting. Just 50 minutes of sweat and personal satisfaction. Perfect !

Day 36 - Central Park Zoo

The perfect way to rid of a hangover is by going to corporate day at Central Park Zoo! Seeing a polar bear in the middle of New York really shows you how diverse this city is!

Day 35 - Rugby Brunch @ Bondi Road

I have entered a rugby 7's tournament in November with some of the other interns and we thought that the best way to get to know each other was through the medium of alcohol. We ventured to Bondi Road on the lower east side and paid $20 for a meal and all you can drink booze. Perfect!

It's fair to say that when the beer pong started, we got to know the real sides of one another. To say that we were competitive would be an understatement! GAME ON!

Day 34 - "Fail to prepare, prepare to fail"

I have some fairly big projects coming up at work and decided that I would need to really structure myself so that I can manage all of my responsibilities.

So what did I do? I ordered bright pink draw folders of course!

To wind down from my day, I went for a stroll round the financial district and looked in awe at what is being built where the Twin Towers once stood. Stunning!

After my stroll I went to Johnny Utah's and met a few other Mountbatten interns. It seems that some of the other guys have different ways of winding down. Like being thrown around by a raging bull!

Day 33 - WEAT PEANT!

After coming back from a day at work I am approached by what can only be classed, as the worst sign EVER! I suspect that whoever produced the sign did so with their feet and their eyes in back to front. Better luck next time!

Day 32 - Grimaldi's

After reading that Frank Sinatra used to get the pizza's from Grimaldi's (take note that they are situated underneath Brooklyn Bridge!) delivered to him in LA, I knew this was a must visit!

It did not disappoint, they were so good! Recurring theme here but it was definitely the best pizza I have had out here... so far! Personally I think that I would struggle to justify putting it in a seat and sending it east to west. I can however justify the uptown to downtown trip that I have to make for these scrumptious goods.

Day 31- Rain, rain, go away!

Contrary to popular belief, there is nothing romantic about walking through the rain in New York.

It is still wet.

This has been my view while walking back from Uni...

Day 30 - He is the Music Man, he comes from far away

Isn't this just the best way to cheer up grumpy Monday morning commuters? Go on music man!

Sunday 16 September 2012

Day 29 - Four Weeks and I am Top of the Rock!

Would you believe that I have been here for four weeks? All the previous interns said that this year will go fast and I think I am starting to agree with them now!

To commemorate my four week anniversary I went to the Rockefeller Centre and looked out across the Empire State. My original plan was to get there for sunset but the length of time it took to get from the top to the bottom meant I had to settle with NYC at Night. This obviously now meaning that I am going to have to go at least once more, so that I can see from the top in daylight and at dusk. What a shame!

Day 28 - My First Day at School

Yesterday was a day of firsts. It started off with my first day at school and of course I will be served fresh pastries and fruit on each Saturday class!

Later on I went to Randall's Island to watch a friend play fuzzball under Triborough Bridge.

I finished the day off by sampling what the Lower East Side taverns had to offer. Karaoke bars were a plenty! I've never been to one but would highly recommend if you want to sing Mr. Brightside at the top of your lungs!

Day 27 - Insomnia Cookies

When you are a natural fat boy like myself, you tend to gravitate towards places like Insomnia Cookies. They deliver till 3am, they're in no way cheap but they are very, very good! M&M's my favourite (so far!)

Day 26 - Another Office. Another, Another View.

I will never get tired of posting this type of picture, as I hope that you will not get tired of viewing these types of pictures...

Wednesday 12 September 2012

Day 25 - Baby Shower

I went to my first ever baby shower today. My initial thoughts were that we would hand over some pampers and a dummy! Oh no. This is America. They embrace the baby showering.

There was a nappy mountain, cupcakes with dummy's on top and little booties scattered everywhere. I did however lack relevant subject knowledge to embrace in a networking session,
so instead did what I am very bad at. Take pictures.

Day 24th - 9/11

One World Trade Centre epitomises prowess and spirit as it stands tall over New York city.

This could not be any more of a reminder of the atrocities that happened on 9/11. However, it also shows how much spirit this community has.

Day 23 - Memorabilia be gathering

Not much to report on the western front, just a long day at work and a house re-org! Slowly building up my stock pile of trinkets from my travels though...

Sunday 9 September 2012

Day 22 - Harvard

Day two of the Boston road trip took me to Harvard University. The first place I went to was a restaurant (standard procedure) for breakfast. You can tell that this is one of the best universities in the world, when they can come up with something as genius as Breakfast on a flat bread! As with the day before, below average photography will guide you through the day's events...
One of the Harvard residencies plus 'cool' student on window ledge.

John Harvard and his lucky left foot.

Night of the Museum has made me wish for these places to come alive!

Horrendous neck ache!
Just hanging around...
Dentures required Sir?
The largest Glass Flower collection in the world.
